CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A former staffer for Democratic Sen. Harry Reid has announced he'll run for the Nevada Assembly seat held by Republican Derek Armstrong.
Democrat Vinny Spotleson announced Tuesday that he'll seek Assembly District 21 seat, which includes part of Henderson and unincorporated Clark County. He'll be running against Armstrong, a freshman lawmaker and tax attorney who played a key role in developing the tax plan that ultimately passed the Legislature.
Democrats have a slight registration advantage in the district, which also includes a significant bloc of registered nonpartisans.
The 28-year-old Spotleson worked on state legislation in 2013 that called for the closure of a southern Nevadacoal plant, and also was an organizer for Reid's Clean Energy Summit.
The Assembly Democratic Caucus has not yet endorsed a candidate in the race.
