BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) — Boulder City officials will decide this week on the future of a historic building that once served as the hospital for workers constructing Hoover Dam.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that the Boulder City Council will meet Tuesday to decide whether to grant a permit for a developer to demolish Six Companies Hospital.
Preservationists have advocated the property be turned into a museum.
Randolph Schams, a developer and the city's planning commissioner, wants to tear the building down to construct housing.
Schams argues it would cost millions to maintain the building as a museum.
The hospital opened in 1931 and served sick and injured workers building the Hoover Dam.
The dam's general contractor who owned the property sold it after the dam was finished in 1936.
