Nevada State School Board Member Dave Cook Dies At 65

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — An elected member of the Nevada State Board of Education has died in Reno after an illness.

Danielle Cook told The Associated Press that her father, Dave Cook, died Oct. 12 after spending a few weeks at Renown South Meadows Medical Center with an infection. He was 65.

Cook graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, and lived in Carson City for more than three decades. He taught business and economics at Western Nevada College, and also taught high school math at a Nevada charter school.

Interim State Superintendent Steve Canavero and Board President Elaine Wynn issued a statement expressing condolences and saying they would miss Cook's perspective. Cook served on the board for more than 10 years.

Gov. Brian Sandoval will appoint a replacement from northern Nevada.
