Groups To Highlight Safety For Las Vegas Kids To And From School

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Advocates and public agencies are planning a week-long series of back-to-school safety events in and around Las Vegas ahead of schools opening Aug. 24.

UNLV Traffic Safety Coalition Coordinator Erin Breen says the daily events — at 10 a.m. each day — will focus on protecting pedestrians, encouraging seat belt and booster seat use, improving bicycle safety, teaching bus riding rules and describing dangers faced by teenage drivers.

Involved groups include the Patrick Kelly Youth Foundation, Center for Traffic Safety Research, Safe Kids Clark County, Safe Routes to School, Academy of Human Development, UNLV Vulnerable Road Users Project and Zero Teen Fatalities Program.
