Man Swims In Bellagio Fountain, Breaks Stuff, Gets Arrested

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man was arrested after swimming out to the Bellagio fountain on the Las Vegas Strip, briefly stopping the famous water show and damaging the fountain.

Las Vegas police say a 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday and faces misdemeanor trespassing and felony property damage charges.

The Las Vegas man apparently climbed over the walls and swam out to the fountain jets around 9 p.m. in the 8.5-acre, man-made lake, which has an average depth of 7 feet and is as deep as 14 feet.

He refused to get out and kicked the jets, which were turned off. There was at least $5,000 worth of damage.

He was taken into custody about two hours later via an inflatable boat.

A hotel spokeswoman said the shows resumed and minor repairs were made.
