Republican Enters Race For Open Las Vegas Congressional Seat

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Former Nevada congressional candidate Dr. Annette Teijeiro says she's planning on running for an open Las Vegas congressional seat.

Teijeiro said she'll run in the Republican primary for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District Monday on a Las Vegas morning talk radio show.

Republican Rep. Joe Heck has represented the district since 2010 but also announced Monday that he'll enter the race for a U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Nevada Democrat Harry Reid.

Teijeiro most recently ran an unsuccessful bid to unseat Democratic Rep. Dina Titus in 2014. Titus coasted to victory with nearly 57 percent of the vote in the Democrat-heavy district.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is trying to recruit former Secretary of State Ross Miller and state Senate Minority Leader Aaron Ford to run for the seat.
