Technical Problem Causes 911 Callers To Get Busy Signal

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police are investigating after a technical problem left people calling 911 with a busy signal.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that police say the issue was resolved at about 5 a.m.

Officer Michael Rodriguez says it is unclear how long the system was down or how many callers attempted to call 911 during that time.

Rodriguez says the 911 malfunction is a very rare occurrence, and reminded callers that if they get a busy signal when dialing 911 in the future, they should call 311. Emergency services can be directed from that line.

The 311 nonemergency system remained up and running during the outage.
