UNLV Med School Gets $10 Million Donation For Scholarships

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The University of Las Vegas medical school has raised more than twice the amount of money it had hoped for to provide scholarships for its first class in 2017.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the campaign to raise $6 million in scholarships for students at the medical school ended early after a recently announced $10 million donation from the Engelstad Family Foundation brought the campaign to a halt.

The medical school will also receive $27 million in startup funding over the next two years under legislation signed by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Now the medical school has to hire faculty and prepare admissions for its first class of students. The school also needs to raise money for its first building, which will be located near UNLV's dental school.
