Gov. Sandoval Signing Read By 3, Zoom, Victory School Bills

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is visiting Las Vegas schools to sign bills implementing his multimillion-dollar education agenda.

Sandoval signed SB391 at Rogers Elementary School on Wednesday morning. The bill creates Read by 3, a $27 million initiative that will provide extra literacy support for students and eventually require schools to hold children back if they're unable to read by third grade.

He's also scheduled to sign SB405, which will double the state's investment in the Zoom School program that provides extra resources to schools with a high number of English language learners.

He'll also sign SB432, which creates the new Victory Schools program to offer extra funding to schools in Nevada's 20 poorest ZIP codes.

Sandoval's initiatives aim to improve a public school system that ranks near the bottom nationally.
