CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have approved a measure that changes how ride-hailing companies like Uber are regulated in the state.
Assembly members voted to concur with an amendment to AB176 on Tuesday after rejecting the measure during a late night floor meeting on Saturday.
The measure complements another bill that would allow ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in the state. It places ride-hailing companies under the regulatory umbrella of the Nevada Transportation Authority rather than the Public Utilities Commission.
AB175 was approved Saturday morning and legalizes companies that allow people to hail a ride through a smartphone and imposes a 3 percent fee on taxi and ride-hailing company fares.
Both bills now go to Gov. Brian Sandoval for approval.
Ride-hailing companies hope to begin operations on July 1.
