How important is music to a child's education? One expert says it is vital.

At one point, teaching music in primary and secondary schools was seen as just as important as reading, writing and arithmetic.

But nowadays, as school districts across the country face budget shortfalls, music and arts classes are some of the first ones on the chopping block.

Musician and educator Patricia Hoy wants to change that.

She's in town speaking to the music educators working at the Clark County School District about the importance of an education in the arts.
