Nevada Gets Millions In Federal Dollars To Expand Preschool

Federal education officials are giving Nevada millions of dollars to expand preschool programs in the state.

Gov. Brian Sandoval and state Superintendent Dale Erquiaga announced Wednesday that Nevada is one of five states to receive a preschool development grant. The first year's award is more than $6.4 million, and the state could potentially get more than $43 million over the course of four years.

Nevada's preschool program serves about 1,400 students. The grant funds would help the program's capacity grow by 58 percent.

Money will go toward preschools in Clark, Washoe, Lyon, Churchill and Nye counties.

Erquiaga called the money a game changer for the next generation of Nevada students.
