LAS VEGAS - A Nevada judge rejected a call for a new trial for a Saudi Arabian air force sergeant found guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.
Clark County District Judge Stefany Miley issued her ruling Wednesday in the case of 25-year-old Mazen Alotaibi, and set sentencing Jan. 28.
Alotaibi faces a mandatory minimum of 35 years in state prison.
Defense attorney Dominic Gentile had argued Alotaibi deserved a new trial because a witness said he lied during testimony about how intoxicated Alotaibi was before encountering the boy at the Circus Circus hotel on New Year's Eve 2012.
Prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth called intoxication a small detail amid overwhelming DNA and medical evidence and witness testimony that Alotaibi forced sex on the boy.
