Former UNLV basketball star Khem Birch has signed with the Miami Heat. Terms of the deal, signed over the weekend, were not available. Birch, who went undrafted in June after leaving a year early, decided to join the Heat earlier this month, according to his agent, Mike George. It’s seen as unlikely that Birch will make the regular-season roster, but he could end up with Miami’s D-League affiliate.
Birch won back-to-back Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year awards. He played in the NBA Summer League with the Washington Wizards team, averaging 5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.3 minutes per game.
