A 6-year-old male bear was trapped and killed Friday after punching a hole in the side of a small Genoa barn and killing two goats earlier in the week, says a Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman.
The bear had killed four goats in Genoa in April. After the bear was trapped following that killing, it was released into the wild about 80 miles south of Genoa. The bear wore an identifying ear tag it received in March 2013 when it was captured near a lambing area in Jacks Valley, just north of Genoa.
The spokesman said this was the first bear killed this year for attacking livestock. Two bears were euthanized in 2013 for the same reason.
