A Nevada Group Joins The Fight Against Fracking

A new anti-fracking group has entered the fight to keep the controversial process out of Nevada. The Reese River Basin Citizens Against Fracking filed a lawsuit in Reno last week to block the lease of lands for hydraulic fracturing - or fracking. Lander County officials and the Center for Biological Diversity months ago filed protests against the Bureau of Land Management's plan to lease land between Austin and Tonopah. A BLM environmental study showed that exploration of the area would have little impact to the region. But the Reese River group argues in their lawsuit that the government is underplaying the dangers of fracking in an earthquake-rich area. There is a region in Nevada called the Chainman Shale, a region crossing Nevada and Utah believed to have a rich deposit of shale oil.
