Thousands of Nevadans Get Authorization Card

Almost fifty-thousand Nevadans have taken the written exam for a driver authorization card but only roughly 23,000 have received a card or instruction permit.

The cards are available to international immigrants who aren't eligible for a regular driver's license, and to people transferring driver privilege cards from other states. State transportation officials believe up to 60,000 Nevadans could be eligible to apply for the cards.

The original senate bill was created in hopes of encourage drivers without licenses to learn more road safety and acquire insurance. DMV officials admit that it is hard to tell if any of these drivers had insurance before or got it after getting the cards.
