Two century-old buildings on the campus of the University of Nevada Reno will avoid the wrecking ball.
Yesterday university representatives dropped plans to demolish two residence halls, the Lincoln and the Manzanita. The buildings were constructed in the 1890s. The decision comes after weeks of pressure from historic preservationists, students and alumni.
The residence hall won't be used to house students after June of 2015. The university still has to decide the future uses of the buildings. UNR officials still have to consider whether both halls require upgrades to meet current earthquake construction standards.
