UNLV Planners Claim Stadium Will Generate Millions

A new football stadium on the UNLV campus could bring hundreds of millions of dollars to southern Nevada. That's according to the consulting firm putting together a financial plan to fund the stadium project.

Yesterday representatives with Conventions, Sports, and Leisures International along with John Restrepo of RCG Economics, presented an economic impact study on two different stadium plans. The plan outlined how an open air stadium could generate up to $231 million in annual direct economic impact including almost 2,400 jobs to Southern Nevada. The second plan, a domed stadium, could mean a $511 million annual impact and almost 5,400 jobs to the region.

Currently the consulting firm is looking at 16 public and private sources of funding sources to help build the stadium. One idea for funding is a sales tax, which has been shot down by several resort officials. A final plan has to be put together to present to the next legislature.
