Rain Helps Firefighters Battle Carpenter 1 Blaze

GUEST

Adam Kealoha Causey, reporter, Las Vegas Review-Journal

Although wildfires continue to blaze in the Spring Mountains west of Las Vegas, they’re gradually getting under more control – partly due to an assist from the weather.

“It was more humid up there – they were saying there was more moisture and it looks like one of the biggest helps we’ve seen so far from the weather,” says Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Adam Kealoha Causey, who has been covering the fire.

While the fire is still spreading, it’s spreading at a slower rate than in recent days “About 400 acres,” says Causey. “We’ve had some days where it grew by 5,000 acres, so that’s significantly smaller growth.”

The fire is now 43 percent contained, but that doesn’t mean the flames have been put out, just that they’re under control. “There are still parts that are burning and really hard to get to,” says Causey.

Still, the news is better than it has been in recent days. Causey says that homes and buildings seem to be less threatened at this point “so crews seem to be feeling pretty good about that.”
