Las Vegas Sounds: The Lique, Poppermost, And The Soul Juice Band

The Las Vegas music scene is a vibrant one. Musicians are playing all kinds of genres of music and they're getting followings.

NV89's Willobee talks with us about three Las Vegas-based music groups:

The Lique:

“First time I heard them I thought they were a bit ahead of their time,” Willobee said, “They’re combining jazz with hip-hop kind of similar to the Roots and the more recent super group of August Green.”

They were recognized by the Las Vegas Weekly as one of the ten acts to watch back in 2016.

The song they have now on NV89's playlist is called "Billie's Holiday." The song is a tribute to Lady Day - Billie Holiday. The singing is rap. The music is jazzy.

Poppermost

"Alex Oliver is the singer, guitarist and piano player. Roy Rendahl is the bass player. They started out as a duo back in 2001."

Their cover of "It's Not Unusual" is a new take on a Tom Jones classic. The cover is a unique take but it stays true to the feel of Jones' hit from 1965.

"They're a soul, funk and roots band. They play all around Las Vegas, including the House of Blues and the Hard Rock Cafe."

They've just released a brand new track called "Brown" that has been playing on NV89. The song is about racism, unity, and that under the surface, we are all the same.

Willobee Carlan was recently inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
