The Las Vegas Philharmonic goes all in for its 18th season finale, with Music Director Donato Cabrera at the baton for an exciting lineup of masterworks. The orchestra's latest concert at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts kicks off with Mozart's suitably lively and dramatic overture to his opera The Magic Flute, and then Liam Boisset takes the lead for Richard Strauss' lone Oboe Concerto, which is said to have been inspired by the aging Strauss' WWII conversations with a U.S. soldier, who also happened to play that instrument. The show comes to a climax with Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 6, a monumental work that first premiered in 1899 with none other than Gustav Mahler conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
