• June 25: Cabrera Conducts Dvorak
The Las Vegas Philharmonic goes tribal as they celebrated Donato’s birthday with the West Coast premiere of Clarice Assad’s overture, Nhanderú, a musical portrait of an Amazon basin ritual that focuses on faith, prayer, and gratitude. Nathaniel Stookey’s orchestral version of YTTE (Yield to Total Elation), a piece inspired by the story of A.G. Rizzoli, a humble draftsman who created elaborate designs for a vast imaginary city, receives its world premiere.
Finally, one of Donato’s favorite pieces, Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, creates a fantastic counterpoint as the centerpiece for the second half of this celebratory concert. Known for its dramatic expression and brooding atmosphere, this is perhaps one of Dvořák’s most personal, self-explorative works.
