Washoe County’s district health officer has told Board of Health officials that students should not return to schools due to what he called “a high potential for increased spread of COVID-19.
Kevin Dick said his recommendation is based on Washoe County’s high rate of new cases of COVID-19, the Governor’s Disease Transmission Tracker, and the county's recent designation as a “yellow zone” by the White House Task Force.
While he recommended a continuation of distance learning, the recommendation doesn’t apply to teachers. Dick said teachers should be able to return to school buildings to conduct distance learning.
