The Nevada System of Higher Education is praising the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling Thursday morning in favor of preserving the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
NSHE joined more than 160 other higher education institutions from 32 states supporting the University of California System in its case against the Department of Homeland Security. That lawsuit stemmed from a decision by President Donald Trump in September 2017 to rescind regulations for the DACA program.
NSHE Chancellor Thom Reilly the ruling “has lifted a tremendous and overwhelming burden” carried by DACA students.
