A study released by the scientific research group Climate Central indicates that Las Vegas has been the fastest-warming city in the U.S. since the first Earth Day, which was on this date in 1970.
Since then, Las Vegas’s average temperature has risen about five and three-quarters degrees, just over a degree more than the second-fastest warming city, El Paso.
The rest of the top five cities are Tucson, Phoenix, and Burlington, Vermont. The national average temperature increase for the state is two and a half degrees.
