CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei expressed support for legislative efforts that would allow marijuana businesses to utilize banking services, if the legislation includes certain conditions.
The Republican made the comments to reporters after he addressed a joint session of the Nevada Legislature on Tuesday in Carson City.
Amodei says one of those conditions with the legislation is that law enforcement and regulators have open access to the accounts because "we still don't want people laundering money for people."
Marijuana businesses are often shut out at banks because the drug is illegal under federal law.
The federal lawmaker says having large amounts of cash floating around different dispensaries "is not a smart thing public safety wise or any other way."
