NDOW Awards $372K Hunting, Gun Safety Grant To Ely

ELY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Department of Wildlife has awarded a $372,393 hunter education grant to Ely to help teach firearm safety and develop shooting sports in the area.

The Ely Times reports the Steptoe Valley Trap Skeet and Target Club has agreed to provide the necessary matching funds of a minimum of $124,131.

Ely Mayor Melody VanCamp and City Attorney Chuck Odgers are asking the city council to ratify acceptance of the grant at an upcoming council meeting.

They say the project will allow for courses to be taught in the winter and summer months while allowing improvements for safety, range improvement and special needs access for everyone to participate in shooting sports.

The shooting club will provide all labor and materials to construct two trap and skeet fields and install a water well, septic tank and filtration system.
