The U.S. Department of the Interior announced nearly $300,000 will be given to study pronghorn antelope in Nevada.
The research grants will be given to study migration corridors of the herds.
In a statement, the department said the funding comes as a result of Secretarial Order 3362, which aims to improve the federal government’s collaboration with states to enhance the quality of big game winter range and habitat.
The northwest Elko herd is one of the largest and most migratory in the state with an estimated 2,000 animals. The Nevada Department of Wildlife said that the funding will also help with improving on the ground conservation actions.
