Governor's School Safety Task Force OKs 14 Recommendations

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A task force studying how to make schools safer and reduce risks of mass shootings has approved 14 recommendations it will send to Gov. Brian Sandoval.

The recommendations approved by the Sandoval-created task force on Friday included a call for more police officers and social workers on campuses.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports Sandoval will consider the recommendations as he proposes a budget for the upcoming legislative session. Some recommendations could be approved by the Legislature or Sandoval with an executive order.

The task force also included recommendations from a summit convened by Attorney General Adam Laxalt that suggested sharing school building plans with police and other changes.

Sandoval's task force is due to submit a final report to the governor by the end of the year.
