Nevada To Get Federal Dollars For Conservation, Outdoor Recreation

The U.S. Secretary of the Interior announced today Nevada will receive federal dollars to support parks and outdoor recreation.

Ryan Zinke said more than $800,000 in revenue will be distributed to Nevada for Land and Water Conservation Fund grants. The money is part of an overall $61 million chunk being awarded to the 50 states.

The funds come federal offshore oil and gas revenue shares under the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act, or GOMESA. The amount is more than five times the roughly $37 million states received during GOMESA’s first phase from 2009 to 2017.

DOI officials attributed the increase to more revenue-generating leases being included in this second phase.
