All four Democratic members of Nevada’s congressional delegation have issued forceful statements opposing President Donald Trump’s border separation practices.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Republican Senator Dean Heller called the practice a “terrible policy,” and Republican Representative Mark Amodei signaled his opposition as well.
Public outcry over the Trump administration’s controversial immigrant family separation policy has been substantial, with a bipartisan chorus of lawmakers opposing the action.
In a press briefing yesterday with the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen blamed the separations on federal immigration laws riddled with loopholes, and called on Congress to fix statutes that she said don’t allow the government to hold immigrant families together.
