Sec. Zinke Not Going To Recommend Elimination For National Monuments

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said he’s recommending that none of the 27 national monuments he’s reviewed over the last few months be eliminated.

But, he did say there would be changes for at least three of them. Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National monuments in Utah and Oregon’s Cascade Siskiyou National Monument are all set to be reduced.

It’s not clear whether portions of the monuments would be opened up to oil and gas drilling, mining, logging and other industries for which President Donald Trump has advocated. Over his 120-day review, Secretary visited eight national monuments, including Basin and Range and Gold Butte in Nevada.
