Justice Department Issues Warning To Las Vegas Over Immigration Enforcement

Las Vegas was one of eight cities to receive letters from The Justice Department today, which threatened to withhold grant funding if they don’t affirm they are providing required cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

The threat is part of the Trump administration’s effort to crack down on sanctuary cities. The letters follow up on an announcement last month from Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The municipalities that received the letters were identified in a Justice Department inspector general’s report last year as potentially out of compliance with the requirements.

The letters were also sent to officials in Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Miami, Milwaukee, New York City and Sacramento, Calif., as well as Cook County, Ill.
