Lawmakers Still Skeptical Of Cuts To Mental Health

Nevada lawmakers remained skeptical of Gov. Brian Sandoval's proposed cuts to mental health services.

After a two-hour hearing in front of advocates, judges, police officers and social workers, many questions were still left unanswered.

The Reno Gazette Journal reportsSandoval has proposed cutting $20 million in state-provided mental health services and slashing 112 positions from Northern and Southern Nevada mental health services.

Sandoval argues his decision to expand Medicaid coverage has opened the door to federally-funded community care for those with a mental illness, causing the state agencies to see a drop in their caseloads.
