The Henderson City Council moved a step closer this week to passing a yearlong moratorium on all retail activity related to recreational marijuana.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reports the council proposed the ordinance at its Tuesday meeting to give officials time to plan comprehensive zoning, land-use and public safety regulatory plans.
The 360-day moratorium focuses on all aspects related to the sale of recreational marijuana, including licensing and operation as well as all cultivation and manufacturing.
The ordinance states the moratorium can be lifted at any time once the city council adopts regulations, the council also has the ability to extend the ordinance an additional 90 days. Council members will vote on the ordinance at their February 7th meeting.
