Nye County Marks Opening Of New VA Clinic

Officials in Nye County are marking the opening of a long-promised Veterans Affairs clinic in Pahrump.

Republican U.S. Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada is among elected officials on Thursday hailing completion of the $12 million facility that users say will cut the 60-mile drive to a VA center in North Las Vegas.

At almost 10,000 square feet, the new facility near Desert View Hospital is about double the size of a modular clinic currently serving about 2,500 veterans in Pahrump.

Authorities say as many as 6,000 U.S. military veterans live in the area.

The project was beset by delays after it was first proposed for construction in 2012.
