Nevada Joins Other States In ICANN Lawsuit

Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt has signed the state up for a lawsuit against the federal government.

Nevada has joined Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas in suing the U.S. Department of Commerce over its regulation of ICANN.

ICANN is the body that oversees and regulates databases that make up the backbone of the Internet.

The Department of Commerce is giving up its oversight of the group and letting ICANN become independent, but the lawsuit from the four states seeks to block in.

Critics of the move by the Department of Commerce say the U.S. needs to maintain control of ICANN to preserve free speech on the Internet.
