New Medical Clinic To Open In Tonopah

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A health facility is opening up in Tonopah, nearly a year after the only hospital in the area for 100 miles closed down due to financial troubles.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the medical clinic will open June 1 at the site of the now-closed Nye Regional Medical Center. The new hospital is the result of a partnership between the Nye County Commission and Renown Health.

A news release from the health care group says the facility will use telehealth videoconferencing technology to increase patients' access to primary care providers. Renown also says it's working to expand health services by hiring more support staff and hiring an on-site advanced practitioner.

The medical clinic will be staffed by former employees of Nye Regional, which closed its door in August.
