LVCVA: Not Demolishing Riv Would Cost Nearly $16B In Economic Benefits

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says Southern Nevada would suffer if the group is not allowed to tear down the former Riviera hotel-casino to expand the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the LVCVA says the area would lose out on nearly $16 billion in economic benefits over the next 30 years if the convention center does not expand to the former Riv space.

The projection comes on the heels of a petition filed with Clark County to block the demolition of the Riviera on the grounds that is an historic property.

The LVCVA has fought that proposal, and has planned to move forward with plans to demolish the Riviera beginning this summer.
