Democrats Endorse Candidate For Kirkpatrick's Assembly Seat

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Assembly Democrats are endorsing a North Las Vegas corrections officer for the seat formerly held by high-ranking Democratic Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

The caucus announced Tuesday that it was backing Daniele Monroe-Moreno for the Assembly District 1 seat.

Caucus officials say Monroe-Moreno worked to develop alternative sentencing programs and has volunteered with a range of community and faith-based organizations. She's also a mother, a 22-year resident of North Las Vegas and is soon to retire from her job as a corrections officer.

Caucus leader Irene Bustamante Adams says Monroe-Moreno knows the community well and is prepared to continue the service of Kirkpatrick, who resigned the seat to join the Clark County Commission.
