East Nevada Fire Fully Contained Near Refuge; Grouse Habitat

ELY, Nev. (AP) — Federal firefighters say they've fully contained a wildfire in eastern Nevada that burned about a square mile of public land near a wildlife refuge, including some priority habitat for the greater sage grouse.

The fire sparked by lightening first was reported Aug. 4 about eight miles southwest of the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge about 70 miles southeast of Elko.

Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld says it was fully contained by Saturday night.

Hanefeld says no private property was threatened and no injuries reported. It consumed an estimated 657 acres of mostly pinion-pine, juniper, sagebrush and grasses. There was no threat to private property.
