An earthquake about 150 miles northeast of Las Vegas shook the valley around 11:47 a.m. apparently damaging a freeway off-ramp and causing chaos in the Spaghetti Bowl.
The US Geological Survey says the 4.8 magnitude quake was southwest of Caliente. An off-ramp from US 95 south to I-15 south seemed to have a separation of asphalt, and that ramp and others in the area were closed for several hours, reopening about 4:30.
It turns out, acccording to the Nevada Department of Transportation, that it was only rubber covering seams in the pavement that was dislodged..
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office had no immediate reports of any damage in or around Caliente.
