LAS VEGAS (AP) — Activists seeking higher wages for fast-food workers and adjunct professors rallied at college campuses and McDonald's restaurants in Las Vegas as part of a coordinated nationwide series of protests.
Laura Martin with rally organizer Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada said Wednesday that protesters included some McDonald's workers who walked off their jobs to join.
The effort is part of a campaign calling for fast-food chains to raise hourly wages to $15.
The rally took chanting protesters to campuses of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and College of Southern Nevada as well as a state government building to watch legislators on television discuss a proposal to change the state's Public Employees' Retirement System, with stops at least four McDonald's along the way during the day-long protest.
