The Clark County Coroner's Office on Wednesday said heat was a factor in the deaths of 526 people around the Las Vegas Valley in 2024.

County officials said certain substances make people more susceptible to succumbing to heat, such as fentanyl. Other factors include medical conditions, physical exertion, illness, inappropriate clothing and poor fluid intake. A majority of the deaths occurred outside and in public.

In the summer, Las Vegas experienced its hottest temperature on record at 120 degrees F. Across the globe, 2024 was the hottest year on record.
