Opera Las Vegas: Amahl and the Night Visitors with Four Lost Santas
Amahl and the Night Visitors is a one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti telling the story of a poor shepherd boy and his mother, whose humble lives are forever changed by a visit from the Three Kings on their way to Bethlehem. Commissioned as the first opera written for television in the United States.
Four Lost Santas, by composer Spicer Carr, is a comedic holiday opera. Premiering in December 2024 as a lighthearted companion to Amahl and the Night Visitors, this one-act tells the story of four Santas—members of a barbershop quartet on their way to SantaCon—who break down on the side of the road. They are rescued by Judy and her imaginative son Rudy, who are on their way to a small-town production of Amahl. As unexpected cast members quit at the last minute, the group bands together with Christmas tunes, camaraderie, and a sprinkle of holiday magic to save the day. Regional premiere.
