Autumn Mirage: Place-based Writing and Painting Workshop
Autumn Mirage: Place-based Writing and Painting Workshop
Join Nevada Humanities at the Clark County Wetlands Park on October 4, 2025,10:00-11:30 am for a Sagebrush to Sandstone painting and creative writing workshop led by multimedia artists and writers JM Huck and Anesce Dremen. Taking inspiration from Stephen Shu-Ning Liu's poem "August Mirage," participants will have the opportunity to observe the surrounding natural environment and replicate it through creative writing prompts and watercolor/ink wash.
The workshop will include a short nature walk near the Wetlands Visitor Center. Participants will be encouraged to use all five senses while adding color, line, and text to their artworks. Participants with all levels of visual art experience are welcome to attend. No visual or literary art experience is needed, though emerging or established artists can be provided with more advanced prompts.
Materials: Event hosts will provide writing notebooks, pens, and art supplies. Participants are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing (including comfortable shoes and a hat) and bring a reusable water bottle. All participants will receive a free copy of Sagebrush to Sandstone: A Humanities Guide to Outdoor Nevada while supplies last.
Space for this event is limited and registration in advance is required. This program is supported with funding by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University.
