Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers shot and injured a woman who approached them with a knife early Friday morning.
The officer-involved shooting happened at the corner of Torrey Pines and Del Rey Avenue, on CSN’s West Charleston campus.
Metro says officers were parked in the parking lot of the 6300 block of West Charleston Boulevard, when an agitated woman approached their vehicle around 5:15 am.
The woman was in possession of an edged weapon, which she used to begin banging on the officers’ vehicle as she demanded to be shot.
Officers deployed a taser, which was unsuccessful, and then discharged one of their firearms, striking and injuring the suspect.She is currently in stable condition and, according to reporting from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was transported to University Medical Center. No Metro officers involved were injured.
Captain Adam Seely, of Metro’s Internal Oversight and Constitutional Policing Bureau, said at a Friday morning press conference that the suspect appears to have no ties to the shooting location.
“This did occur in an isolated area of CSN in one of the parking lots. We have no information that the suspect in this incident has any ties to the campus or the school," Seely said.
This is Metro’s 11th officer-involved shooting this year.
