Nye County Sheriff's Deputy Hurt Responding To Car Fire

A Nye County Sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday after being hit by a car while responding to a car fire in downtown Tonopah.

The crash was reported just before 10 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 95.

Sgt. Duane Downing was taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas where he remained in serious condition.

Downing also serves as the chairman of the Tonopah Town Board.
