UNLV Professor Apologizes For Facebook Post

A part-time math instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has issued an apology for social media posts saying he'd tell immigration authorities about students in his class who are in the U.S. illegally.

The instructor, George Buch, acknowledged making the Facebook posts with a statement to his students and to the campus newspaper following criticism and a campus protest Thursday that drew dozens of people.

It said he realized his comments were hurtful, and said he meant them as a joke that wasn't funny.

Buch said he'd never create what he called a classroom of hate or intolerance.

KNPR attempted to contact Buch by phone and through online messages but he did not return those.
